Real Church History

"The Thief comes not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life and that they might have it more abundantly." - Jesus the Messiah

   Her tenor screams mix with their base groans. This dark haired little Greek is penned beneath vicious men with Red crosses embroidered on their white vests as they molest her.

    All the strong men who would defend her already lay in their own blood along the walls and in the gates of the city. The older women and young boys who had come to her aid have been intimidated or eliminated by the same swords that killed their fathers and husbands. Her voice rises up from the cramped alleys to intermingle with the voices of others combining in a city-wide choir of disharmony.

   It was April 13, 1204 the day that Constantinople was over-run by the crusader army. Just hours before the preaching of the Bishops tickled the ears of these invaders:

   Quoting Pope Urban they said,

"All who die by the way, whether by land or by sea, or in battle against the pagans, shall have immediate remission of sins. This I grant them through the power of God with which I am invested. O what a disgrace if such a despised and base race, which worships demons, should conquer a people which has the faith of omnipotent God and is made glorious with the name of Christ!" Whoever wishes to save his soul should not hesitate humbly to take up the way of the Lord, and if he lacks sufficient money, divine mercy will give him enough." The apostolic lord continued, "Brethren, we ought to endure much suffering for the name of Christ - misery, poverty, nakedness, persecution, want, illness, hunger, thirst, and other (ills) of this kind, just as the Lord saith to His disciples: 'Ye must suffer much in My name,' ... 'Great is your reward in Heaven. Jesus Christ said, "He who loses his life for my sake will find it"

   With smiles on their faces silhouetted in glorious robes and proclaiming the name of Jesus, these priests eloquently expounded to the pilgrims that the war was a righteous one. Their justification is that the Greeks were traitors, murderers, disloyal, and worse than Jews. One after another the bishops said that, by the authority of God and in the name of the pope, they would absolve all who attacked the Greeks.

   The sunlight, shades of green and aroma of life that spring day were thus covered in the haze of smoke. Crimson rivers coursed through the streets leaving behind the stench of death. For days the population of Constantinople had been united in prayer to their Christianized icons. These brothers in Christ had united together to defend their city valiantly.   Now those who remained alive they were united in misery. Weeping, shrieks from victims of rape and murder joined in chorus to sing the horrible song of the oppressed.

   At whose hands were they suffering; at the hands of the soldiers of Christ? Who had gathered this army?   Was this God's army or did it belong to another. The Official Church of Europeat the behest of he who sat upon the Seat of Petros raised this army. The stories of brutality that returned first as tales of conquest quickly faded as the grotesque testimonies of the truth about these war-pilgrimages were told. The church spun these tales to save face. Irregardless of the Official Churches attempts to control the flow of information the truth, in time, filtered down to the people of Europe.

   The European population then as now had grown to distrust their ‘Spiritual' leaders. This truth of the crusade would influence an entire generation of young people.

                                                               Stephen's Vision

   Eight springs later in the hills of France a lean boy with bushy brown hair and the bluest eyes ever seen lounged with his flock of sheep on the eve of another beautiful day. He sat entranced; his eyes fixated on some leaf in the distant carpet of green. This lazy day was interrupted when suddenly he heard a voice that would change his life.

   Stephen was a twelve-year-old orphan whose parents died when he was five. On that fateful evening in the fields he says he saw a vision. The man who spoke with him was a stranger. Yet this mysterious man had spoken to him as if they were close. Suddenly in his heart Stephen knew him: it was Jesus!

   He ran to the town of Saint-Denise where he loudly proclaimed what Jesus revealed to him. Stephen boldly pronounced that the previous crusades were marred by men whose hearts were impure. God was now raising a new army, an army of innocents whose purity and faith would defeat the enemies of Christ. The waters of the sea would part so that they may cross by foot into the Holy Land and claim it for the Lord.

   In the filthy streets of the Dark Ages his ‘vision' was fresh and sanitizing. Larger and larger crowds gathered to hear his call to arms. These peasants knew of the tales of Constantinople and were keenly aware of Pope Urban's demand for war-pilgrimages. Like a fog rolling in to cover the water, the boy's logic began to cloud the minds of parents in the city.

   His words were filled with strength and passion. In the spirit of the day, these listeners would re-tell of Stephen the Soldier of God, and as their tales grew longer they would claim for him the ability to heal the sick and perform other miracles.

   His message spread like wildfire across Europe. In this 13th century from Christ, would they finally achieve Jesus' vision for the world, or was their vision so horribly marred that they could never bring to fullness the Gospel of Christ?

                                                    The Toolbox of Discovery

   Excerpts of history like those above provoke dark questions that most Christians are afraid to ask. These questions are just ignored or explained away off-handedly by Church Historians. These disturbing events also promote confusion in the minds of those who would follow Christ. Such facts of history explain why humanism and atheism are so prevalent in modern government and education. They explain why the musician Madonna hangs as a harlot on a mirrored cross mocking Christianity during her 2006 concert tour.

    Almost all modern institutions of higher learning mock Christianity because of its sordid history in Europe. As a student at TarletonStateUniversity in Stephenville, Texas I was constantly mocked and belittled for my belief in God. Almost all mocking was justified by citing the dangers and absurd abuses of power of the Church of Europe. During my travels I found that the people of Europe are still very skeptical of the OfficialChurch. After studying ‘Church History' as it is labeled I began to understand their point of view.

        This explains why no "credible" scientist will give way to the mounting evidence that The Evolution Theory is bankrupt and that the Creation Model is the only scientific answer to the origin of man. Once a public figure goes down the road of acknowledgement of God many are afraid, and rightfully so, that it will one day end in a new Inquisition which will replace science with superstition, thus ushering in a new "Dark Ages". These are legitimate fears in light of the fact that the old power of Rome is growing stronger and that the Coming of the Lord looms more imminently than it ever has.

        Thankfully there were men like my father Terry Williams, Ronny Reese, Larry White, Bill Kolb, Mark Rizzo and a host of others who exhibited a different type of Christianity than the one I read about in the History books. This difference sparked an interest within me to find the source of the disparity between historical Christianity and these modern Bible Men. In my quest for knowledge what I found was amazing. It is a story rarely told. When it is told it is typically negative, disjointed, confusing, and always incomplete. I hope this story of the Christian past which I have woven together from the fabric of history will captivate you as it has me. There is much misinformation to sort through, but the truth is still to be found.

   So in order to sort out the events of the past, and to separate the genuine gold from the fool's gold, you need four tools and a little knowledge on how to use them. When looking into the past how do we tell the difference between genuine Christianity and professed Christianity? The answer is very simple, but only for those who think with a spiritual mind, not a natural one.
