Era I
There was one association of churches from A.D. 44 to A.D 250. Believers began to use adjectives to describe themselves as:

Christians - Acts 11:26

Churches of Christ - Galatians 1:22

Churches of God - I Corinthians 11:16

Common faith - Titus 1:4 (‘catholic’ in Latin)
Era II
From 250 to 1179 there was one main division and a development of two basic types of local assemblies:

The Lapsi (the compromisers with pagans who later would join the government)

The Cathari (those who remained autonomous Bible Believing Churches)
