3 Eras of Church History:

Era I

There was one association of churches from A.D. 44 to A.D 250. Believers began to use adjectives to describe themselves as:

  • Christians - Acts 11:26

  • Churches of Christ - Galatians 1:22

  • Churches of God - I Corinthians 11:16

  • Common faith - Titus 1:4 (‘catholic’ in Latin)

Era II

From 250 to 1179 there was one main division and a development of two basic types of local assemblies:

  • The Lapsi (the compromisers with pagans who later would join the government)

  • The Cathari (those who remained autonomous Bible Believing Churches)

 Era III

 From 1179 to the Present:

  • The Lapsi of old.

  • The Reformed Lapsi/Protestants (Abandoned the Lapsi and mingled with Cathari)
